Myths & Miracles of Victorian Medicine

Wednesday, October 277:00—8:00 PMOnline

Myrtle Mills, a fictional lady who has endured “every illness known to man”, escorts audiences into the simultaneously advanced and utterly primitive world of medicine during the late 1800’s. Audiences learn about Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, hygiene practices, patented “remedies”, kitchen- cupboard concoctions, dentistry, pregnancy, industry-altering discoveries such as the x-ray and practices that, in today’s world, defy common sense. Mothers, take your ailing children to a local factory and tell them, “Breathe deeply, Dear. The gases will make you feel better”!
