Virtual Author Panel: Women in Sci Fi REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Thursday, December 87:00—8:00 PMOnline

After authors such as H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, and Mary Shelley made Science Fiction so popular, we wondered how women currently have impacted the genre. So we asked Julie E. Czerneda, K. Eason, Mur Lafferty, & Lena Nguyen to join us in having a conversation about their journeys into Science Fiction and the books they've published. We're sure it will be an "out of this world" discussion! We hope you can join us.

Registration is required. Please fill out the form here to sign up. Zoom access details will be sent in a reminder email prior to the program.

About our authors:
Having written 23 novels (and counting) published by DAW Books, as well as numerous short stories, and editing several anthologies over the past 25 years, Julie E. Czerneda was inducted in the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2022. Her science fiction and fantasy combines her training and love of biology with a boundless curiosity and optimism, winning multiple awards. Out Sept 20, 2022 is Julie’s first short story collection, Imaginings, followed November 15th by her standalone sf novel, To Each This World.

K. Eason lives with her husband and a trio of disreputable cats in Southern California, where she teaches first-year college students about zombies and food (not at the same time!). Her short fiction has appeared in Cabinet-des-Fées, Postcards from Hell: The First Thirteen, Jabberwocky 4, Crossed Genres, Kaleidotrope, and Ink: Queer Sci Fi Anthology. She is also the author of the On the Bones of Gods trilogy, The Thorne Chronicles, and The Weep series. When she's not writing or commenting on essays, she's probably playing D&D.

Mur Lafferty is a podcaster and writer from Durham, NC. She made her name with podcasting (I Should Be Writing, The Angry Robot Podcast, and Escape Pod, the premier SF podcast magazine) and has written for magazines, roleplaying games, and audio and video podcasts. She's the author of I Should Be Writing, Six Wakes, The Shambling Guides, and part of the team that writes Bookburners.

Lena Nguyen is an award-winning writer of speculative fiction and fantasy. She was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has studied writing all over the world. Lena's career has been dedicated to writing. Along with lecturing and teaching, she has worked as a researcher of science fiction; a literary novel judge; a creative consultant; a developmental editor; a game developer and writer; and an assistant editor of the literary publication EPOCH. Lena is currently celebrating the publication of her debut novel, WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE: a post-apocalyptic science fiction thriller featuring a misanthropic psychologist and her android companions as they voyage on a haunted spaceship. WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE is published by DAW Books and Penguin Random House, and can be ordered online or anywhere books are sold. Lena's next project is to design, write, and code a choice-based interactive fantasy game, as well as to finish her new speculative wasteland adventure: an assassin's desert romp that lies somewhere between the realms of Mad Max and X-Men.
