We Still Live Here: Wampanoag Language Reclamation Project Documentary Screening & Discussion
Thursday, October 76:00—7:30 PMOnline
In recognition of Belmont's newly renamed Indigenous Peoples' Day, we are excited to share part of the story of the Wampanoag and the amazing story of the return of the Wôpanâak language, which was silenced for more than a century. We will begin with a screening of the documentary We Still Live Here - Ās Nutayuneān, which tells a remarkable story of cultural revival by the Wampanoag of Southeastern Massachusetts and the creation of the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project nearly 3 decades ago. The screening will be followed by a discussion/Q&A session with a member of the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project.
Registration is required; Zoom information will be sent in your registration confirmation. Thanks to our community partners, Belmont Against Racism, Human Rights Commission and Town of Belmont, who helped make this event possible.
