You've probably noticed a square barcode, also known as a QR code, pasted to a graffitied light pole, on the back of a business card, or on a restaurant table instead of a printed menu. But what are they?! Despite being a mid-90s invention, the QR code didn't gain real momentum until the era of smartphones.
